Brief Biography

JOSHUA BUTLER is an award-winning independent filmmaker and one of the most prolific television directors of his generation, with over 60 hours of content to his name.

Joshua wrote and directed the cult horror feature VLOG for the producers of SAW and is currently writing and directing the sequel. With his production company Iceblink Films, Joshua produced and directed acclaimed LGBTQ+ short films HOUSE NOT HOME (Official Selection at Outfest and NewFest) and DOGHOUSE (winner of Best Short Film at Catalyst Content 2017), multiple movies-for-television (including Christmas classicPRANCER RETURNS) and numerous music videos, including festival-favorite “Baby You’re Like A Drug”, starring Joshua Jackson. Among his television credits are 6 episodes of Syfy’s hit THE MAGICIANS, 5 episodes of FOX’s THE FOLLOWING starring Kevin Bacon, 11 episodes of the CW sensation THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and multiple episodes of Disney/Freeform’s SHADOWHUNTERS, PRETTY LITTLE LIARS, RAVENSWOOD and TWISTED. Joshua has also directed Kurtzman/Orci’s CBS show LIMITLESS produced by and starring Bradley Cooper, Robert Rodriguez’s MATADOR for El Rey Network, Irv Gotti’s TALES for BET, Joe Carnahan’s STATE OF AFFAIRS for NBC, Kevin Williamson’s THE SECRET CIRCLE and THE ORIGINALS for the CW, as well as action classic NIKITA, starring Maggie Q. Joshua was profiled by MTV News, Emmy Magazine, Wetpaint, Parade, and ExtraTV, and was named a Shorty Awards finalist as “Best Director in Social Media”. In recognition of his humanitarian and activist work, Joshua was awarded the prestigious Scenarios REAL DEAL Award and The Association of Black Sexologists and Clinicians’ Director’s Award.
